Scottish Endurance Riding Club Tayside branch, Lindertis.

On the 1st May we took four horses to a local pleasure ride, which was Lindertis. The first part of it was very nice as were riding around fields and through forest tracks then a short way along a quiet country road. I wasnt too keen on the last part as went across fields with a lot of rabbit holes and uneven ground but I suppose that is why it is called endurance riding! We had chosen a speed category this time and were making good progress until we reached the fields where we had to slow down, I think we were eight minutes too slow for our nominated speed category which was really frustrating. I think the next time we nominate a speed category the idea would be to go as fast as possible where it is safe to do so, that way if we have to go slow at certain points we should still be ok time wise. It was a beautiful sunny day and a good experience, on this ride we also learned not to be too relaxed about time keeping as you never know when or where you will have to ride slowly.

My riding partner was Oscar, who was pleased to be back on forest tracks and fields rather than beach! My mum rode her mare, Sigrit. We had Mary who has ridden with us once previously on a pleasure ride, this time riding Tallina who is my 5 year old little baroque mare. Last but not least was a new addition to our group, Kathleen who was on her first ever pleasure ride and she rode another of my 5 year old mares named Valente. All of the horses managed the 19K without problem but were grateful for the bath on return to the lorry as was such a hot day.

Robert Kilpatrik came along to take some photos, it was a great day for pictures and as always he managed to get some good ones which can be seen at www.robkil.com
