Scottish Endurance Riding Club – Tayside branch

Last Sunday we returned once again to ride at Tentsmuir which is one of my (and Oscar’s) favourite rides. This was our first ride ride with SERC of 2012 and for Oscar and I it was a big day as our first 30k (well I believe it was 31k), this was a trial for us to see how we managed with the distance and I have to say that I couldn’t have been more proud of Oscar’s effort as he was still trying to canter right at the end of the ride and his heart rate at the start and end were perfect so I was so pleased with him and have decided as he is so keen we will do some more 30k rides this year.

It wasn’t just a big day for Oscar and I, as doing her first ever pleasure ride after travelling up from Newcastle was Caroline who rode my mothers horse Silke. Caroline did very well as was a 22k ride on a horse who she had only rode for 5 minutes the previous day which could be a little daunting to most people but Caroline got on great and Silke as always loved the pleasure ride!

Gemma came along and she was also riding a strange horse who she had never ridden previously nor had he done a pleasure ride, this was my little 5 year old gelding.

My Mum rode her big mare Sigrit, and we were met at the venue by Edward with Elle. All five of us started the ride together then me and Oscar went on to do the extra mileage without the rest of our group.

As always at Tentsmuir we all have a fantastic day, it is such a nice place to ride as is flat with forest tracks and a small section to ride on the beach. I believe this is a very popular ride and for good reason.

Robert Kilpatrik was there taking photos of the beach www.robkil.co.uk
