About Friesians Scotland

Who are we?

Friesians Scotland are made up of myself (Janine), my mum Kay and of course all of the horses we have collected over the years.

Both my mum and myself have built our lives around horses, they have always been a part of our family. Infact we still have my first pony, a Shetland named Tambo. (picture below) He is an old man now but in his youth he taught me a lot, we had great fun together but most importantly he taught me how to care for and respect horses.

TamboMy experience with horses began from being a baby and over the years I have worked with many horses. My work experience has been very varied from rehabilitating abused horses to training eventers and racehorses etc in order to develop more of an understanding of different methods to train a horse. I have worked with people whose training methods were entirely one extreme to another. The best example of this is a holistically run rehabilitation yard where the horses well being was put before everything. At the opposite end of the scale was a racehorse training yard where thoroughbreds were broken to ride at one year old and kept inside for 6.5 days of the week.

Kay (my mum) has always had a love for horses, has always been around them and has successfully owned and run a riding centre. Although she does enjoy hacking the horses through the countryside she enjoys nothing more than to just watch the horses playing together in the fields.

Friesians Scotland

Why did we set up Friesians Scotland?

Between us we have experience with many different breeds of horses and have found no other breed to be as easy to train, as willing to please and as breath taking to look at as the Friesian. The nature of the Friesian for me is the most admirable, it is amazing that a horse so big and powerful is so gentle towards people and they seem to actively seek human attention. We really do believe that in looks and nature no other breed comes close to that of the Friesian.

The easiest way for me to explain why we want to promote the Friesian breed in one word is Oscar!

Oscar Oscar Oscar

Oscar is our Friesian stallion and the reason why we fell in love with the Friesian breed. Before we bought him we had only admired Friesians for their outstanding beauty and movement to match. Now we admire them for their amazingly gentle temperament, ability to learn and their eagerness to please. They are my idea of absolute perfection in a horse!

Purchasing a Friesian

We discovered that purchasing a Friesian can be a difficult and very expensive task. It is our aim to promote the breed and to make them more accessible. We have a selection of quality Friesians available for sale and if we do not have exactly what you are looking for then we offer our help to find the perfect Friesian for you.

Our horses are mainly bred in Scotland but we also import from other countries in order to find the best horses for our clients.

If you have any questions regarding purchasing a Friesian we are happy to help.
